A home needs innovative ceramic ware and everybody looks for a touch of elegance, style, and personalisation. While the design of the ceramic ware is a personal choice within whatever fits the budget, ignored, sometimes, are the sanitary ware used. However, a lot has changed over the past few decades, as the market grows – People care not only for a well-designed bedroom, but also their bathroom.
When it comes to the bathrooms, it needs functionality, and comfort, and has to be visually pleasing. Consider this, the average time a male spends in bathrooms is around 20,500 hours in his lifetime; women spend around 18,500 hours. Shouldn’t there be investment from your end to make this time as pleasant as possible?
The sanitaryware market in Bangladesh is of about Taka 700 crore, and it is a growing sphere for businesses and consumers. Companies battling it out to occupy different segments, and adopt new and innovative designs are increasing. We have features such as anti-slip and anti-fungal/ anti-bacterial properties embedded into the glaze of sanitary ware, temperature and impact resistance, stain resistance and durability, incredible gloss finishes and resistance to chemicals are a few other features.
At high temperatures just under the melting point, the ceramic ware turns soft at first and later on, cools down to harden and take a rigid form. We generally see manufacturers using feldspar, ball clay, silica, and Kaolin, to produce sanitary ware, and the composites are sourced from the international market. We have 20 per cent imported goods in the sanitary market, 80 per cent of the local demand quenched successfully. Without narrowing down on any particular brand, we can only suggest that you scour the market for single-fired porcelain from reliable brands. Fittings such as shower heads, pipes, holders, tower racks, etc, in your bathroom should be the best quality to make sure they don’t require frequent replacements. These fittings are directly handled and should be able to withstand heavy usage. The fixtures of the highest quality such as basins, commodes, bath tubs, etc, can be easily sourced in our country.
A guide
To understand how sanitary wares are meant to fit in the bathroom space you have, here are a few pointers that can help you get started.
Evaluate how much space you have
Consider the size of your bathroom space whilst scouting for sanitary ware- they come in different shapes and sizes. The available array of options should make it easier, but interior designers have always seen hurdles making the perfect layout for their bathrooms. Thi
s ratio of bathroom size and the size of the sanitary ware depends on the eyes of the beholder, to keep it minimal is the way to go.
An 8 feet by 10 feet bathroom cannot have a spacious double sink. For an uncluttered bathroom, leave one third of the space empty. This makes it seem roomier and more spacious. Current trends follow aesthetics above all. Hop on the train if it best fits your taste.
Budget consideration
A restrictive budget may be a problem. Quality, being above all, does not come cheap. A product that has more durability might cost more, but it will last longer and require very little maintenance and repairs, which will save you from the accumulated cost.
Quality and colour
Too many colours in a bathroom space is bound to create a chaotic impression. We have seen white sanitary ware being widely used in bathrooms, but the market offers a lot more options now. While an all white bathroom is in sync and visually pleasing, the contrast between tiles and sanitary ware is important. While the design relies entirely on your liking, try to play around with two or three colours only.
